Plus Obama won by 7.25% last time but this time by 2.8% and he didn't win the Independent vote either.

IMO this shows unhappiness with the candidate choices. Polls during the election season showed the same, including unhappiness with both parties. Not liking the direction of the country is another thing that has consistently shown in polls starting under Bush in his second term.

Rather than getting too cocky, I'd say both parties have work to do.
