You're missing the point.
McLain said he want's the play for a REAL TEAM.
That $4M base salary next year IS huge, in terms of leverage. He needs the Chiefs even less than they need him.
If he reports, they're going to use him for 5 games and either cut him or force him to take a pay cut. Either way, he's not getting paid $4M next year.
He can accelerate the process by refusing to report and in the process, ensure he doesn't have to play for a clown show like the Chiefs.
