Republicans came out against child labor laws. They fought against women's suffrage. Republicans were against Social Security, and the New Deal, the 40 hour work week and giving workers the right to bargain collectively. They stood shoulder to shoulder against the GI Bill. They were livid over LBJ's Civil Rights Act and the Voting Rights Act. Republicans fought to repeal the Glass-Steagal Banking Act of 1933. They were firmly opposed to Medicare and Medicaid.
