Well, I suppose that would be up to the school district's policy. I'd prefer seeing it in a biometric gun safe. Easily accessible in the event of an incident, but otherwise completely secured from any student "stealing the key from the teacher" that you proposed. Plus, I would assume the district would make it policy that no children would be told there is a firearm in the classroom and, at the very least, where it is kept.
