Which, is my biggest complaint. We can't change people, so we have to do a better job making sure these don't get in the wrong hands.

When I was still young enough to consider getting up at the butt crack of dawn to freeze my ass off in a tree stand fun I did it with a mildly modified SKS in my hands.
I used my SKS for hunting because I get consistent accuracy out of it, it's cheap to buy and shoot, I'm not afraid of scratching it up dragging it through the south east Kansas hedge row country, and could drop it in the mud jumping a ditch chamber a round and have confidence it would accurately fire. Plus since a lot of the recoil is taken up by the semi-automatic action after the first shot I can get right back on target for another if needed.
I know a lot of coyote hunters that use AR's for similar reasons, accept the whole dropping in the mud thing, AR's don't get along with dirt at all.
