Off the top of my head the Nazi reference is spotty at best. The previous regime had already enacted gun control legislation and the Nazis just continued to enforce those laws on civilians. The Nazi movement was popular enough that they didn't have a need to overcome any uprising of the populace. The laws they did pass largely affected the Jewish population though, and might have helped to subdue the ghettos.
