I'm getting tired of explaining logic to a braindead asshat, so this is my last response. Wanting your conference to win BENEFITS your team. Anything that benefits MY team is what I want to happen. Conference opponents winning improves your ranking & strength of schedule when you beat them, provides you the benefit of doubt & reputation when ranked against other teams (several examples already provided), results in your school and conference getting the best recruits, results in your school and conference getting more money.
Rooting against your conference opponents at all costs just proves that your a more hateful & spiteful douche. You're cheering against what's BETTER for your team. That's not being a bigger fan, that's idiocy.
