It's true NY may be overreacting a slight bit with the new laws. New York City only had 414 homicides in all of 2012, the lowest ever recorded since record keeping began in 1963.
While other places such as Illinois might want to examine their gun laws with Chicago having over 500 in 2012 alone.
In fact, I saw that if NY had the same murder rate as Chicago it would have totaled more than 1,400 murders last year.
And all it takes is twice the number of police per person and stop and frisk laws.
