I read the article in the KC Star this morning. I thought it was kind of silly to say that "the most amazing statistic of all" was that Musial had the same number of hits at home as on the road.
Really? THAT'S what Pete Grathoff (the author of the article) took from Stan Musial's career? A little statistical oddity like that was the most amazing statistic?
I'd think that striking out only 18 times in over 700 plate appearances in 1943 is more amazing. I'd also think hitting 5 home runs in a doubleheader and whole bunch of other things he did are far more amazing than getting the same number of hits at home as on the road. That's a pretty "meh" statistic as far as I'm concerned.
