I think its a horrible idea. No armed guards could have stopped Adam Lanza. One crazy determined gun man is worth more than ten armed guards. Even if it would work it doesn't make sense economically. There are literally ten of thousands of schools in the USA so your school being hit by a shooting are pretty miniscule. So instead of hiring a new teacher there hire a new armed guard.
Adam Lanza was confronted by teachers, the principle and school psychiatrist, the principle and school shrink he killed in the hallway execution style. Had they been able to confront him with more than an empty hand that entire scenario works out differently.
