It has a lot more to do with the fact that he had a foreign national as a father, that he spent much of his youth being raised outside this country, that he wrote a fictionalized autobiography, and that the details of his early life are vague at best.

You don't read the papers much do you. His self-described goal is have a transformative presidency. His health care program alone has generated widespread opposition in the states like I've never seen before. Yeah, not controversial at all.
