Maybe, maybe not. It's hardly worth spending much time on, to be honest, but 600 years AFTER he cavorted and called to the pagan gods, people in Massachusetts were hanging people and crushing them due to witchcraft.
Could it just be the victor writing the history books? Sure. Could it be that a 20 year old kid, drunk with power and alcohol ran around screwing anything that moved and (in a joking, stupid-kind-of-way) calling out to some pagan god of lust or some damn thing? Who knows, and who really cares.
