I also don't understand how people are so scandalized at the satirical use of someone's death on a website where there are daily threads lampooning the untimely end of any number of people. Some are criminals or whatever, but many have families that love them, etc. Why is someone who at one time worked for the military held above the same gallows humor?

My thoughts exactly. I think it hurts because when this board lampoons someones death it is typically someone who is either completely anonymous or completely "deserving" of that fate. This guy is someone who, many, would hold in a very high regard for his service alone... let alone the fact that he was attempting to help a fellow ex-soldier recover from PTSD.
Dunno... but I'm obviously not the only person who felt some uncomfortableness with the drawing.
