Its always been my opinion that a future pick, regardless of the round, has the real value of one round lower. I get what you are saying about a 2-14 team gambling with its future, but it isn't like picking high in the first year after year has worked either. We just continually suck and guys want to walk, or flame out before any of it matters.
I personally like the Dorsey hire, but dislike the Reid hire. I'm hedging that this front office isn't the front office of a 2-14 team and will make some worthwhile choices. You're correct, it's a big, stupid gamble but if it gives these guys the cushion they think they need to get a QB 1:1 this year, then I'd be all in.
