My position regarding gas prices has not changed. My biggest gripe is that speculation sets prices rather than supply and demand. That is true with the entire economy. It is a fake economy driven by speculators rather than tangible factors.
The difference between business crooks/oil men running the country versus an administration motivated by public service is that everything is to benefit the industry instead of the people of this country. Including lying us into an unjustified war.
Another really big gripe I had with the Cheneyburton Administration is the gutting of environmental regulations in order to cater to the industry. Particularly, exempting the industry from The Clean Water Act, Clean Drinking Water Act, Clean Air Act, and Superfund Act. All so that hydrofracking could proceed without worry of being held accountable for the damage that is inevitably being done. Unfortunately, I have to live with the consequences of those horrible decisions as I live in the heart of the Marcellus Shale.
I have no problem saying that Obama has not done enough to reverse those greed driven policies. There is a lot I am dissatisfied with regarding the Obama Administraton. But the difference here is that the current administration is not a subsidiary of the oil industry and does try to make the case for alternative fuels.
Unfortunately, it is almost impossible to take a political stand unfavorable to oil industry interests because the industry wields too much influence. I'd like to get rid of lobbying and go strictly with public funding of campaigns. Get the money out of politics and our government could ultimately be returned to us. We should start by reversing Citizens United.
Until the oil industry is no longer able to influence policy we will keep getting screwed. The question is do you want our president to be someone who favors policies that may ultimately offer relief or a president who is in cahoots with the crooks who are screwing us.
