The actual number is difficult to discern and will likely never be completely known, due to a number of factors, not the least of which is incidence vs prevalence (eg, does having ANY homosexual contact identify one as "gay"), but regardless, your estimate is very low.
Incidence rates tend to hover around 15%-- that is, 15% of people have had same-sex encounters during some pre-defined period (usually adolescence to young-adulthood); prevlance rates range from about 5-10%.
