Here's what I see with Smith: A solid but not spectacular QB with the arm strength to make all of the throws, but at times he seems hesitant to make throws he should make. He's often inconsistent and didn't deal well with teams that could rush the passer.
Do I think he should go #1 overall? No. Do I think that he could develop into a solid NFL starter, given the "right" situation? Yes. But he's far from a finished project, unlike any of the guys taken in the past three drafts that have become solid starters (and that includes Dalton and Wilson).
I think the toughest thing about evaluating him from watching games and Youtube is that it's difficult to actually
know the guy.
He's not charismatic. He does have the droopy eye thing going on. He doesn't
appear to be a leader. He just doesn't look the role or act the role. I think that's a problem for a lot of NFL people.
