Kaepernick was raw coming into the NFL. He was too much of a project for most coaches. Harbaugh had no doubt he could coach him to potential.

Imagine Kaepernick being coached by the Raiders or Cardinals or Browns. Watch what Harbaugh and 49ers QB coach Geep Chryst do with Colt McCoy.

Kaepernick has a very special combination of physical and mental traits. All he needed was adept coaching that wouldn't screw him up. If he was drafted by the Raiders, he would be out of the NFL or a career backup in 3 years.

He has tremendous ceiling but he was raw coming out.
