And by convention you omit those outliers or else your stats are skewed and unreliable and therefore unusable. So in all honesty, take out Alex Smith's best game (against NO) and his worst game (whenever that was in his career) and you have stats worse than Matt Cassel. Justify him now wankers.

There's also the matter of comparing what QB A did against Defense B compared to what the average QB did against Defense B.
Alex Smith's game against New Orleans was very AVERAGE compared to other games turned in by QBs against New Orleans that season.
