My sister's cat is very social. He needs to be around people constantly. If you come home when he's been alone in the house for awhile, he'll greet you the usual way with cat chirps, rubbing his head against walls, etc. When you bend down to pet him, then he immediately starts purring. He accepts about 5 seconds of attention, and then starts licking his paws.
And he does that for like 10 minutes. Could be for ANY situation, really. Let's say you were in the office doing work and had to shut the door to concentrate. After you went downstairs, he'd greet you and then start licking.
Let's say he wants in the bedroom. You let him inside, he jumps up, and starts licking his paws.
Play with him? He'll go for a couple minutes then lick his paws.
And you can't get him to stop, either. He will not be distracted from licking his paws no matter what you do. Not even food takes him away. You can even pick him up and he'll keep trying to lick.
