That's not what he meant. He meant that if one guy comes up and homers, sometimes it can kill an even bigger rally because everybody behind him starts swinging from their heels for the fences. The important thing he said was "do what you are capable of doing. If you single, the guy behind you will double." The surest way to not hit a homer is to try to hit a homer. He just wants everybody to be selective, drive the ball, and relax. There's a lot of common sense wisdom in that.
