I have always contended the double and triple put the most pressure on a pitcher. A pitcher gives up a jack and it's over and done with. A pitcher gives up a double or triple and now he has to be careful because a hit scores a run.
I think they are mentally tougher on a pitcher because it forces him to be more careful which usually means more hittable pitches.
