I think they are mentally tougher on a pitcher because it forces him to be more careful which usually means more hittable pitches.

I agree with you to an extent. When there's less than two outs, im more content with doubles and triples to keep things going. However, with 2 outs and one or two guys on, nothing better than a homer at that point.
