I assume the "bootlickers" are the people who actually look at the facts and look at the law when deciding if something is "illegal". Sometimes, you reach a conclusion that doesn't precisely match up with your personal feelings on the issue. It is possible to be 'against something' while at the same time believing that it is legal.
It's a common symptom of the type of people who support Ron Paul-types: have an opinion and desperately try to make the facts meet those opinions, instead of vice versa.
