John Bothwell was a lawyer, mover and shaker in Missouri politics in the early 1900s. The "luxury" hotel in Sedalia was built by the Bothwells, it's still open:

The local hospital in Sedalia is named after him, as is a state park just north of Sedalia. The park is a mansion Bothwell owned that's up on a limestone cliff with a commanding view of Pettis County. He was a major mojo in Sedalia in his day, to say the least.
