I remember a superior Celtics team beating him and the Cavs and crushing his spirit, yes. The media, of course, ridiculously played that into a narrative about him quitting on his team. And yes, it would be even worse if he left the sport in his prime. I can just imagine the way they would frame him as some kind of cowardly quitter afraid to live in the shadow of the all-time greats and afraid to complete his legacy.
