People underestimate just how little it would take to have people killing each other over food and water. In the case of real social breakdown, it would get barbaric very quickly. Empty the supermarkets, and cut off the supply of gasoline for a week or two, and see how long it takes before cities implode and people are clubbing each other to death over bottles of water.
