If they just brought him in to simply stop the bleeding, they could have brought in a cheaper alternative.
Either, unless Smith proves me wrong about his SB potential, they invested too much.

I think there's a 3rd line of thought here. It's that you do whatever is in your power to improve this team as much as you possibly can right now, for 2013 because if 2013 sucks you may not get a 2014. Get better every day, every week, every month, and every year and you'll be in good shape.
Can A. Smith take this team to the SB? Maybe. I'm not sure they don't get as far with him as they did with Kaepernick, it just would've looked a little different. I think Reid and Dorsey believe that they can accentuate the positive and eliminate the negative with him, and we'll have to see how it plays out.
