You're exactly right. They're not doing shit for us right now and that's fine. Trade Baldwin and Moeaki to Baltimore and it's fine by me even if it results in the same scenario as I posted before with one becoming a probowler and the other a solid starter that earns acclaim for his production.

It's not okay if it's a trade to New England that already is a favorite son in the league -just the same as if it were Denver or Dallas or whoever has been in the spotlight in the last decade or so. Why? Because the deck is already stacked against Kansas City as it is. Dealing away pieces as is being discussed only serves to cement the status that the Chiefs (and, for the sake of the argument, the Royals) are nothing more than farm teams that only exist to harbor young and unpolished talent for successful teams to cash in on later.

****. That.

Of course the NFL is different than baseball on almost every level. But that doesn't change people's perceptions. If the Chiefs start dealing players like Moeaki and Baldwin for draft picks to "elite" franchises then it implies they have no concerted drive to be contenders in the league and serve only as a proving ground for winning teams just to kick the can down the road and hope to contend with a roster of youthful prospects.

And no, this is not an impassioned defense of either player in this scenario. Moeaki is exactly what we know he is in that he's a probably useful player with nagging injury concerns and Baldwin is an underachieving physical specimen. Trade both of them to Arizona for second rounders in the next two drafts. But the possible negatives of having either one of these guys become stars on an established franchise outweigh any positive that results from them being dealt.

TL;DR trading them to a team like New England, Pittsburgh or Green Bay is as unadvisable as trading them to a team in the division.
