That autographed/game used card of Jamaal Charles I bought was limited production to 299. Some basic rookie cards are even numbered production now.
If they're smart, they start doing a limited edition of 1,000, and then they wait until people start selling them on ebay, and then they start making new copies and selling them for $25. (Edit: maybe that's a shortsighted strategy, but there's likely a variant that could work.)
I just don't think you can have a collectible where the ability exists to make more. Or at least I sure wouldn't buy one.
In the final seven games of the 2013 season, the Chiefs averaged 34.6 points per game, scored 38 points or more 4 times, and went 2-5. The NFL has ruined the sport.
