I agree... But to be fair they wanted to make sure the races during football season we're relevant every year, and this was one solution that did that. So I can connect the dots - but like you, I just don't agree with them.
That being said, I still think they need to fix the middle 75% of laps of almost every race, especially at super speedways by making each lap VERY relevant for points. If they'd do THAT I think they'd find that the race's excitement would keep them profitable during football season, not the fact that no one driver has an near lock on the championship.
Make a lap's leader count (every lap), make wins count a little more, and make cars start setup EXACTLY like they were when they shutdown the engine after qualifying (park them and lock them). THAT'S what this NASCAR fan of more than 30 years would like to see...
