Diaz is a smart coach and he'll be fine, but run defense is about effort and he couldn't get it out of his kids at UT. Then again, the attitude of entitlement that pervades Texas Football probably makes it hard for about anyone to get consistent effort out of those guys.
The problem remains Mack Brown because I don't think he forces entitlement from the top down. Afterall - those kids that get into Bama know they're hot shit as well and they bust it every game.
Brown just doesn't demand accountability from his players.

That's been the (legitimate, IMO) knock against Texas players for a long time even back in the early 90s when the team hadn't been good for quite a while.
When the Chiefs drafted Derrick Johnson, it was probably the most excited I'd ever been about a Chiefs' draft pick, but after the first couple of years, I was starting to worry that he was just another coddled Texas player that didn't have enough fire in the belly. I'm glad he finally found his motivation.
