There are many different ways a QB can "carry" his team. Sometimes,
it can be found in the dazzling 400 yard games that so many get obsessed with. Other times, it can be from simply being efficient when you need to be, and minimizing turnovers. Other times, it is driving your team to regain a lead in the 4th quarter, when the game is on the line.
The stats show to me that, for the most part, Dilfer and Grossman were "carried by their team" to achieve their very brief success. Whereas, for the last 2 seasons, Alex has done far more in his role to be able to say that he was NOT "carried" by his team.
In other words,
if over each of the last 2 seasons, Smith had these numbers?
.. and the team success was very high? Yeah, the team carried him a good portion of the way. but alas... these are
NOT the numbers for Smith in his 2 years of success.
