Plus the jokes are like many comedians, observations of daily life, but he takes it to the level that most people never think or consider. Such as you may have seen him on a TV show, but in his mind, you more than likely have seen him in a supermarket. It's sort of like Seinfeld, he questions things that we take for granted. George Carlin did the same, who was probably my first favorite comedian.

Carson then Letterman always had the best comedians of the day. If Johnny invited you from the stage to the chair you did good and would be back.
Letterman had good comedians and the best music artists. Its a shame he didn't get the tonight show and Leno did He became a real dick after that. I am also surprised Dave has stayed out of the news of the metoo with his rape room on the 2nd floor of the Ed Sullivan Theater.
