Understood on all points.
Annual drafts would go much faster because we don't have to build a whole team. This initial draft is the big frog to swallow, and one concern is whether the general sandboxing public will have the patience for it.
We've got a few options we can consider for the initial draft.
First, do a full draft of veteran players like we're doing here.
Second, do the bidding system that cdcox mentioned in a separate thread, which will go much faster but will add a bit of a random element.

Third, we could easily do something like, for every player drafted, a team also gets assigned a random player. This would cut the time in half and also promote trades and stuff. However, it might also produce a rash of waiver wire moves early on that wouldn't be fun.
Fourth, we could do some sort of open or closed bidding system where people bid "dollars" for individual players. This would let people build a team all at once.
Any other options?
