So essentially they're trying to pick up Alex Smith for free. We trade a 2nd and a 2014 pick for Smith, then trade Albert for a 2nd and a 2014 pick and draft a cheaper, possibly as skilled player. The team stays the same as it was plus Alex Smith and minus no draft picks. That's probably what they're thinking...but what they're probably overlooking is that to draft Albert's replacement, you're basically losing.
Sure, you're gaining 2 picks to deal him, but you're losing the most valuable pick in the draft to replace him.
