Popularity has never been the best measuring stick for quality. Regardless of how much they made at the box office, or how many copies they've sold on tape/disk since, the prequels were not good movies. For a variety of reasons. Fortunately a lot of the problems with those movies can be fixed/prevented in the new trilogy (as well as the other upcoming SW movies). And I think that at the end of the day, it's not impossible to create movies with appeal for both 4 year olds and people who were 4 years old when episode 4 came out.
