To me, it makes a shitload more sense on about 7 different levels to see as many pitches as you can in any given game.
1) Your players get increased familiarity in the moment with the pitcher.
2) You wear the pitcher out, increase the chances for a mistake.
3) You create more opportunities for the pitcher to make a mistake or feed you your pitch.
4) You reach into the pen earlier, get shittier relievers.
5) You reach into the pen earlier, and make less relievers available for the next game. This is beneficial even if you aren't playing them the next game.
6) I hear walks increase OBP.
edit: wow, I said seven facetiously and to exaggerate at the beginning of the post, but I actually almost came up with seven reasons.
