I don't know why kids commit to coaches though. You should commit to the school. Coaching changes can happen way too often nowadays.

In the kids defense, Weis is quoted as wanting to run the same style "offense" he ran at ND. This is a pro-style offense and a run-first QB isn't the ideal skillset. He was one of 2 QB recruits already commited and Weis is going after a more pro-styled QB in Crist as his first action at KU. Meaning the writing is on the wall.
I don't blame the kid at all.
