Now I know you're a big fat liar. As someone who has worked as a mechanic, the profession you claim, I can tell you with certainty that at least 50% of the cars that come in, I had no idea how THEY worked. Emphasis on they, because I"m talking at the technical level, not the remedial class "how stuff works.com" level.
