There is a book out there called
The End of Overeating by Dr. David Kessler that is a good introduction to the theory of food reward. The book is basically about how modern foods are specifically designed to stimulate the dopamine center of the brain and cause us to crave it like a drug. It's a great book that I would recommend to anyone that struggles with overeating.
There is also a blog by a UW researcher that is in the field of food reward. He has a whole series on the subject starting
here. Well worth reading the whole series, IMO.
