Despite what most on this board thinks, the Chiefs were bad last year and not just at QB. Charles's talent masked the depth and talent issues on the O-line and the receiving options are practically nil. Even Bowe is iffy IMO.

To bring ANY rookie QB into a situation as unstable as that is asking for trouble, especially a QB from the 2013 class that you have no strong feelings on. If you take a high pick gamble, the pressure will be to put the kid on the field too early. So you will have a player that may not be ready on a team that has a lack of talent and depth. That has played out to bad results over and over in this league.

Getting a veteran leader that takes care of the ball while going with a low risk option (Bray) made a ton more sense given the state of the franchise and talent available in the 2013 QB class. The only thing that runs counter to this line of logic is the price they spent on getting Smith. If it weren't for that, I could totally get on board with what Reid and Dorsey are doing. I guess we'll see how it plays out.
If the problem for bringing in a rookie QB is a lack of offensive talent, there aren't many teams with a worse situation than the Jets.
