Fangraphs has some great data on what the Royals are doing.

Offense: #26 in weighted runs created. 13% below MLB average.
Pitching: #10 in fielding independent pitching (ERA).
Defense: #1 in defensive runs saved. #3 in outfield arm efficiency. #5 in double play runs saved. #1 in range. #1 in ultimate zone rating. #1 in ultimate zone rating per 150 games. (Highest MLB rating in past 5 years)



I think it's pretty clear why we have a winning record this year.
