I've already seen pics flying all over facebook for Boston ...the whole "look how much I care" game sickens me. I have seen at least 2 friends of mine who don't know 1 soul in Boston already pump out multiple posts and pics.

I understand and empathize with the cynicism, but I think it's more a reflection of the helplessness people feel when bad things happen. I definitely feel stir crazy right now, knowing something bad happened pretty nearby and I can't do a single thing about it.
Also, it's nice to know people are thinking about you and the city you love. It's cheesy and a lot of behaviors exhibited in times of chaos are pretty shitty, but I'll forgive a useless but well-meaning and non-harmful gesture.
