If you were a defensive free agent why would you want to come to KC? You would have to move your family and you would have little job security with a new coach and perhaps new GM at the end of your first year. Plus, it's Kansas City and the team/town hasn't always been able to attract the bigger free agents (not that that is always a bad thing).
I was thinking about this earlier this morning as I was reading the articles from the Star. Will the current players play hard for DV in '05 if they know it's his last year? In any other situation, GM's go to great lengths to prevent coaches from entering the last season of their contract without an extension.

But OTOH, maybe they'll rally around the "win one for DV in his last go-round" mantra.
