When I was a kid we lived around the Merced area, (dad was in the A.F.) It was a horrible place to be a hunter. The deer hunting was terrible, the only pheasant hunting was at gun clubs and the other idiot hunters were ****ing clueless.
The regulations for deer were insane too. You were never drawn for a doe tag and the bucks had to be at least 3x3. I'd never live there again. The only decent hunting was valley quail but you had to be in shape to walk 5+ hours in the Sierra foot hills.
