You've bought into the Gunther-ism just like everybody else.
Pittsburgh was the #1 rush defense (3.4ypc) and Sandy Eggo was #2 (3.5ypc). Both, according to your logic, were at a disadvantage because they only have THREE linemen, automatically meaning their front 7 is too small.
Tampa was 3rd (3.6ypc) and they weigh, left to right, 265/290/300/265.
The answer for those three teams is obvious - they overcome any perceived size disadvantage because they have good linebackers. In fact, take a look at the top 10 rush defenses and you'll find the same common thread. We have a very, very good LB unit with just Mitchell and Johnson.
