I think that the government could provide it to it's citizens much cheaper if it controlled the entire process. It really goes against all of my principles regarding government, however if sheer greed dictates that 48 billion in profits a year from 1 oil company alone is the standard, it's time to take away the privilege.
And let's be clear. Gasoline and oil are a necessity of modern life. Putting all of that extra money into the rest of the economy would probably help as well.
