The characters were shown developed and "grown up"/old EXACTLY as they should have been. The only way Luke becomes "My Luke"( Mark Hamill ), is if everything is ****ing peachy in the galaxy and he's running a Jedi academy.

Sweet little dumbassed JJ killed any chance of that happening when he and Kasdan WROTE the mother****er and kicked things off in 7. Johnson took the plate of shit handed to him, and added some depth while mercifully steering the direction away from JJ's tard-fest.
