I imagine they were expecting the 2-3 zone and wanted Brown/Ross on the floor.
Wouldn't have been a bad idea to go SMALL for that possession, though. Especially since Bowers already had 2 fouls.
Plus, in a situation like that where you're holding the ball at the top of the key, there's a higher chance the D falls asleep. Good spot to run the old baseline lob from the weak side.
